Notes:

William Duff Murdoch was born in Sanquhar in 1866 where his father David Murdoch was a tailor.  He attended the Regent Street Polytechnic in London, where he won a silver medal for figure drawing in 1894 and won a scholarship for two years at the Slade School of Art.  He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1899.  His painting of the Children’s Flag, Day, Sanquhar was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1917 and his picture Kirkbride in 1920.
