A Gamble on the Wheel, the Story of a Potter’s Wife, by Daphne Davey, 1977, provides an account of the setting up of his pottery at Bridge of Dee.
Leonard John Davey was born in Nottingham. Teaching at Castle Douglas High School provided John Davey with the necessary funds to set up his pottery, the Old Bridge Pottery, Bridge of Dee and become a full time potter in 1968. The pottery became known as the Davey Pottery from 1976 when he was joined by his daughter Sylvia. His work was shown at craft exhibitions throughout Scotland. He was a founder member of the Stewartry Arts Society in 1969.
