Henry Raeburn Dobson was the youngest son of Henry John Dobson.  At the end of the 1920s he left Edinburgh to pursue his career as a portrait painter in London where his brother Cowan was already an established portrait painter.  Following service in World War 2 Raeburn Dobson returned to live and work in Edinburgh.  He was also a frequent visitor to Brussels where he also painted many portraits.
