Notes:

Colin Thoms was born in Edinburgh and after art college travelled widely in Europe. He and Chris Fergusson’s daughter Nan visited France and Italy on Art College scholarships. He also visited Chris Fergusson at her home in Maxwelltown and was a great admirer of her work. He took up a teaching post at Loretto School in 1937 and after war service returned to the school before taking up a post at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, where he taught for many years. He was President of the Society of Scottish Artists 1949 to 1951. Colin Thoms continued to paint after his retirement and, in his later years, he worked alongside young artists at the Edinburgh Printmakers’ Workshop.
