Notes:

William Crawford is best known as a sailor and painter of the west coast of Scotland.  It is said that it was he who introduced Peploe and Cadell to Iona (See McEwan, bibliography).  In his old age visited Gatehouse of Fleet where he painted a number of works in oil on panel.
