Notes:

Better known as the author of Rambles in Galloway, first published in 1876, illustrated by many local artists.  It includes, as a frontispiece in the later editions, a fine portrait of Harper by W S MacGeorge.  (Portrait in Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries) Exhibited at Kirkcudbright Fine Art Association 1886. (Stewartry Museum file).
